The Magic Bag

One day, a little poor boy named Bobby came walking down a street exercising. This boy is very poor. His mother had to beg for a living and his father work as a newspaper vendor. They live in a tumble down house. He suddenly saw an old bag lying on the rubbish heap, and ran to it in delight. “ I have always wanted a bag to go to school!” he shouted. Bobby looked at the bag with great interest. The strap was torn and the colour of the bag had been washed of by the rain. The leather bag was full of scratches and dirt. He quickly took the bag home to his mother. His mother opened the bag and exclaimed, “ This bag has just the right amount of things for you to go to school, and I will buy you a new bag.”

So the next day, the boy went to school. When he came back from school the next day, his mother gave him a new bag as his birthday present. So, the old bag was given to a poorer neighbour. The neighbour accepted it with full of joy.

Their neighbour went to clean the bag as clean as she could. When she opened the bag, she was shocked, for inside contained all the gardening tools she needed badly inside the bag. She was too excited over the tools inside the bag that she did not even think of asking her neighbour if they had forgotten to take out the tools. Soon, the jumble man came and bought the old bag for a very reasonable price.

The jumble man called Jimmy found out that the old bag has magic and could give you what you want. He helped poor people and donated a lot of money to charity. He even stopped working and help people all the while. People soon wonder how he got so much money.

One day, a thief peeped into Jimmy’s home and saw that Jimmy was taking out some money from the bag. The thief waited for Jimmy to go to bed and after midnight, he crept through an open window in the kitchen and stole the bag. Jimmy was upset when he woke up the next day and found the bag missing.

Meanwhile, the thief quickly opened the bag to retrieve some money from the bag. However, he could only find stones and not a single valuable thing in the bag. Out of anger, he threw the bag into the dustbin.

Finally, the long awaited birthday morning came. After celebrating his birthday, his mother asked him to come to her room to give him a present. So, Simon happily went with his mother to her room. In the room, the mother told him the secret of why nobody wants to be his friend.

Simon shouted at his mother and said,"I don't want this stupid present of a secret. I want something else." But his mother replied, "This is the best present for you because it will cause you to have friends."

"OK, do you want friends?" asked his mother. Simon said, "I want, but I don't want this present. I want a "thing" as a present." Simon continues crying. "But this is a special "thing", " said his mother. "OK lah, I am sorry," replied Simon and he promised not to talk like that to his mother anymore. "I will not cry so much again and I am sorry," said Simon.

From that day onwards, Simon stopped crying and he began to have lots of friends till today.
